Compensation for damages in bus and coach transport
If you have suffered financial losses because a bus or coach service was delayed or cancelled, you may have the right to compensation for damages.
Carrier’s liability for passenger’s additional costs
For example, you can claim compensation for additional travel costs you had because you missed your connecting service. The damage must be proved by a receipt or other reliable manner.
The passenger must try to minimise the damage to the best of his/her ability, which is why you should contact the carrier immediately. You cannot get compensation for distress or mental suffering.
If the carrier denies your claims
If your bus or coach journey was not as agreed, you can file a complaint with the carrier. You should complain as soon as possible. If your complaint to the carrier does not produce results, you can file a complaint with an authority.
Validity of your rights
Your rights are based on the EU Regulation concerning the rights of passengers in bus and coach transport. They apply across the EU territory to passengers travelling with regular services where the boarding or the alighting point of the passengers is situated in the territory of a Member State.
