The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) approved on 12 September 2016 Atria Plc’s acquisition of sole control of Kaivon Liha Kaunismaa Oy.
The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority has concluded that the acquisition will not significantly impede effective competition in the Finnish market.
Atria engages in slaughterhouse operations, meat processing and the convenience food industry. Kaivon Liha engages in beef processing, offering its products to institutional kitchens, industrial further processing and wholesalers who sell the products on to retailers.
Atria has a strong market position in beef wholesale markets in Finland, and following this acquisition its wholesale market share will increase some more. However, the increase in retail sales will be minor. What is more, other players in the market create competition in terms of industrial further processing and the wholesale of beef to institutional kitchens.
The FCCA’s decision includes business secrets of the parties involved. The decision can only be published once all confidential information has been removed, which will take approximately two weeks.
